Preserving Oak Hill's One-of-a-Kind Residential Character
Austin McMullen was elected to the Board of Commissioners on the promise to preserve the unique residential character of Oak Hill, and he has kept this promise.
A cornerstone of Austin’s 2008 platform was a new program to increase police protection in our City. Immediately after his election to the Board of Commissioners, Austin lead the effort to amend a Metro ordinance and negotiate a contract so Oak Hill could begin hiring off-duty Metro police officers.
This safety program has been a tremendous success as the City has focused supplemental patrols to deter crime, apprehend criminals and increase school zone and traffic enforcement. After an off-duty police officer hired by the City of Oak Hill recently made an arrest in an Oak Hill

neighborhood, a resident emailed many of her neighbors saying “Thank goodness for our off duty Metro Police program.”
Since Austin was elected, the City has also adopted a new comprehensive zoning ordinance and other regulations that strengthen the protections for our neighborhoods. Recently completed drainage and traffic calming studies are being used to identify trouble-spots and design specific solutions to the problems we face.
